We took a weekend trip to Copenhagen (Denmark), in May, so we could see Tivoli Gardens and ride over the Øresund bridge to Malmö (Sweden).   For the geographically challenged, a bridge connecting Denmark to Sweden is a very big deal.

Copenhagen

Copenhagen is a beautiful city, and it seemed very livable.   We were there on the first really warm and sunny day of the year, so people were  in an especially good mood.

Copenhagen Harbor

We took a bus out to the Copenhagen harbor to see the famous statue of the Little Mermaid.   The harbor was very pretty, with lots to see besides the Little Mermaid, including ships, fortifications, and a Scottish Church.   Also an outlet mall, but we didn't have time to shop.

Tivoli Gardens

We went to Tivoli Gardens on both Saturday and Sunday, for dinner and to walk around.   We had nice weather and the carnival atmosphere was great; it seemed to have activities for all ages.  We didn't go on any rides, but we did have a soft-serve ice cream cone with chocolate dip.  Any carnival game operators considering relocating from the Jersey Shore could do a lot worse than Tivoli.  If any concessions are available, it'd be a sure thing.

Saturday Evening

Sunday Evening

At certain times a boys marching band would march through Tivoli Gardens. They were very entertaining and Thijs was fascinated. We're not sure if he liked the noise or the uniforms!

Fireworks over Tivoli Gardens

On Saturday night they have fireworks over Tivoli Gardens at 11:00 pm.   That was much too late for us to be out with Thijs, but we had a nice view from our room in the Marriott.

Malmö Sweden

We took the train over to Malmö on Sunday afternoon.   Copenhagen is already pretty sleepy on Sunday, and Malmö was even quieter (even most of the restaurants were closed).    Nonetheless, it was a very pretty town, we had a nice walk, and Thijs met a Swedish boy and his father at the fountain.
